Using a combination of digital photography, 3D modeling and scanning, digital painting, music composition, writing, appropriation, animation, and video, I create a diverse array of work, connected with a few consistent threads. Primarily, my art always seeks to find fun and often irreverent ways to critically engage with the world, often through the production of imaginary realities---mirror worlds whose characters, sociologies, politics, and economies are rendered through the filters of irony, satire, and humor. A persistent characteristic of these worlds is a wandering point of view, wherein the lens of the work does not necessarily reflect my own perspectives or opinions, or at least not only my own. The pieces tend to question the idea of stable points of view, as well as the tendency to view the world in binaries. I welcome their own inner contradictions, and, importantly, try not to sweep under the rug my own inescapable complicity in the very systems I often critique. Where my work seems to traffic in absolutes is where I hope the viewers are most skeptical of the very idea of absolutes. Where the work asks the viewer to make a choice between two things, my hope is that they will question why they’ve made one choice and not the other, and more importantly, to consider the nuances we exclude when we try to carve out the world too neatly.
